3. Do we want to raise our child in an apartment? Or a house?

After my panic mode, I picked up the computer and read an inspiring story about a girl who was laid off from her corporate job and started reselling products on eBay and Amazon for a side gig. She turned that little side hustle into a 6-figure income. 

I was interested in finding out more, getting inspired and excited because this seemed like something I could actually do!

And I did! Last year, I earned over $9,000 in profit from reselling products on Amazon. 

Because I’ve actually been through this, I know first hand, when you’re searching for a side hustle, you need something that fits with your lifestyle. 

I have a full-time job and could not let any side job or side hustle interfere with my main source of income. I needed something that allowed me to choose my own hours.

1. Resell Products Online

I’ve made a nice little side hustle reselling products online for a higher price. I’ve used a number of different platforms to sell my products, but here are my top 3…

Sell on Amazon

This is definitely a side-hustle that works because I do it!

When I first heard of reselling on Amazon, for a split second I was sort of like Eeyore and thought almost everything negative that came to mind like, “Who’s going to buy from me?!”, or “The Market is too saturated, why even try?” Then the Winnie the Pooh optimism came through and I thought, “YES, I can do that, and I’ll knock it out of the park!”

And that is just what I did, and so can you!

In my first year of reselling, I earned over $9,000 in profit selling products on Amazon while working a full-time job and I didn’t even give it my all. 

Most of the products I sourced were Retail Arbitrage (buying products in your local retail stores and them online for a profit) from places like CVS, Kohls, and Meijer.

I began shipping my products to Amazon FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) because running home after work and trying to make it to the post office before they closed every day became exhausting. The extra fees were worth it. Using Amazon FBA, they will ship, package, and handle all of the customer services for your products. That’s what makes it so great.

Sell on eBay

eBay is my second favorite because it has a different audience than Amazon and depending on what I’m selling it will do better on eBay.

I haven’t gotten into this one yet but it’s looking like it can be more profitable than the current platforms I’m using.

Then there was Mercari, the last one I use. Have you ever heard of it? It’s a new(er) reseller platform on the scene and its gaining traction.

I’ve sold 5 items on Mercari in the last 4 months, and it’s gotten me almost $400 in sales!

Mercari’s fees are a flat 10%. I love that Mercari displays the sold items much easier than Amazon or eBay. It’s easier to find things I haven’t thought of when I’m out sourcing or even taking a look at my sister’s closet. 

Keeping an eye out for the things or brands that sell well have made my sourcing and selling experiences much better.

There was an article I found earlier this year that talked about how moms can make money from home. This article is the reason I started selling on Amazon.

When I tried it and it actually worked, I was shocked! It’s funny because the name of this blog is called Tried And True Mom Jobs.

I’m not a mom but the information was just the inspiration I needed to start a blog. She earns money daily from posts she’s written years ago. 

She figured out how to get her articles to rank in Google and because people are always searching for things on Google she’s always getting traffic to her website which allows her to always make money from the ads on her site.

3. Become a Proofreader

Its always a good thing when something fits like a puzzle. 

And if you cringed at the word ‘Its’ when it should have been ‘it’s*,‘ then Proofreading may be the side hustle for you!

Do you always find yourself catching errors when reading? Do you cringe when you see grammar, punctuation, or spelling mistakes? Then you might make a great Proofreader and make some good money.

Do you love taking photos? Are you the family photographer?

For my reselling gig side hustles I mentioned earlier, it’s so important to take quality photos of your products to make them attractive enough for people to want to buy. 

I purchased the Canon EOS Rebel T6i Body, and I’ve taken AMAZING pictures with it. I also purchased the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens which is a KEY component of taking quality photos.

It is an investment that can pay off significantly!

You can also:

• Contact your local real estate agents and offer your services to take professional pictures of their new listings.
• License your photos through stock photography sites like iStock and Shutterstock.
• Submit images to The Sun Magazine.
  • You could earn between $100 – $1,000.
• Offer your services for free to friends and family who want to take holiday, newborn, senior, wedding pictures, etc. Make sure they will allow you to put their photos in your portfolio. If you do a good job, those same people could turn into paying customers.

How much can I make?

• Wedding Photography – $700 – $3,500+
• Senior Portrait Photography – $100 – $300 a session
• Small local businesses – $25 – $200 per image

You should also consider alternative, out of the box ideas like connecting with AirBnB hosts to take photos or video of their space to display on their listing/s.

Using platforms like Udemy is a great place to start. Whether your niche is in Marketing, Photography, Writing, etc… you can earn an easy $200 – $600+ per month for a course you create ONCE.

   • Scope the content of your course to ensure there is enough content for users to engage with and achieve their objectives.
   • Break down your course into smaller, bite-sized lectures and describe what they each need to accomplish.

   • Create your lectures, include slides, screencasts, and drawing boards to appeal to all learning styles.
